Math Monsters

The math monsters
Came for dinner
They have eaten the equations
Nibbled on numbers
Drooled over decimals
Polished off plus signs
Salivated for subtraction
Masticated multiplication
Digested division
They had an appetite for algebra
Consumed calculus
Gorged on geometry
Pulverized probability
They fried up the fractions
Noshed on numerators
Devoured denominators
Chowed down on coefficients
They were eager for exponents
Ate up all the algorithms
Gobbled up googles
Ingested infinity
And had Pi for dessert

April is National Poetry Month and I thought I would end it with one of my own. My kids inspired this poem while doing homework one evening. After they had finished, they doodled googly-eyed monsters munching on the numbers.  My favourite poems are the darkly whimsical ones by Shel Silverstein, Dennis Lee or Lewis Carroll –  my children’s drawings reminded me of one of their rhymes.
